Picking out tiles for a bathroom is one of the fun parts of designing such a room. The variety available is almost endless, but this article will at least try to point you in the right direction.

If within your budget tile the entire bathroom walls, from floor to ceiling. The walls stay a lot cleaner this way, and the bathroom always looks crisp and fresh.

Tiles come in ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone. Ceramic and porcelain are easy to clean, lightweight, and are relatively inexpensive compared with stone. Be aware, though, that you will have to re-grout natural tiles every few years. Don’t try to save money by using lightweight ceramic tiles on the floor, as they’re not strong enough to handle the heavy traffic in a bathroom. In addition, make sure to stay away from floor tiles which are slippery when wet, such as glazed ceramic. You’re better off with a matte finish, which is only slightly textured.

As bathrooms in modern houses are often small, try to stay away from dark coloured tiles, as they’ll give a dim, enclosed impression. To add a bit of interest to the bathroom, you can use a few tiles with a design, strategically placed amongst white tiles.

Ceramic mosaic tiles are on a backing sheet that makes them easy to use.  When finished with grout the look is of hundreds of individual small tiles as in a Roman mosaic. They come in a variety of colours, and if you want to be creative, you can choose different colours and arrange them into a pattern in the shower. Make sure it’s not too colourful however, as you also want your bathroom to provide a relaxing experience.
